A superb result in our last game of the season see us win the local the local derby and finish 4th in the table above our near neighbours.
Mungret started the brightest and forced 4 corners before Regional struck on the break with a well worked goal to go 1-0 up after 15 mins.
Mungret never panicked and got the just rewards when a well worked free kick from Cian McNicholas and Danny McCarthy saw the latter square for Jake Prendergast to rifle home despite keeper best efforts.
Within 5 mins Mungret moved 2-1 up when a stinging strike from Vian McNicholas was parried for Kieran Long to bounce and put Mungret 2-1.
A harsh red card left Mungret down to 10 men as the referee blew the half time whistle.
Despite early Regional pressure in the 2nd half, a brilliant breakaway 8 minutes into the 2nd half saw Hamza Celik run behind the Regional backline and square a ball for Danny McCarthy to tap home his 12th of the season and send Mungret into dreamland.
The game wasn’t without further controversy with Mungret reduced to 9 men with 25mins to go, but with Mungret moving to a back 5 they saw out the game relatively comfortably to the home delight.
Fantastic result with the circumstances, and the back 4 of Conor Myers, Sean O’Sullivan, Aaron long and the exceptional Jake Prendergast stood tall.
All squad members introduced played their part as we end the season on a hugely positive note.
Well done to Paul, his management and of course his players on a fantastic season!
